Our Arts Centre is alive and kicking ...
Date: Monday, 5th December, 2011
... But only because of volunteers. The Chair of the Arts Centre, Bruce Kendrick, ponders on the future for the Bollington Arts centre
I was sitting in the Arts Centre Gallery on saturday night after a long drive from Swansea. We were all listening to some fabulous jazz, one of many concerts put on by our team who run the programme of events. The standard was so high I had to pinch myself that I was not at Ronnie Scott's.
During the gig the leader of this fabulous trio, Alan Barnes, made the point that places like our Arts Centre need supporting as only this week he had heard that Darlington's Art Centre was under pressure to close its doors because of the crisis in funding now hitting the arts scene.
Well rest assured that Bollington's Arts Centre does not rely on any local or government grants. Whenever they do arrive such monies are very welcome of course but over 90% of our income comes from our own activities. So our future is not dependent on any continued grant schemes.
We can only do this because we have a terrific team of volunteers and we are very well supported by our own community. The recent improvements to our auditorium have increased the size of our audiences so please take a look at what we have on offer. And if you fancy helping us as a volunteer then do get in touch.
Bruce Kendrick
Chairman of the Management Team
